The Daniel Pearl Foundation: join imaginary frend + Chromeo in celebrating its World Music Days 2010

October 4th, 2010 by Giselle

October is the time of year when imaginary frend turns an altruistic eye to the Daniel Pearl Foundation, a foundation we are very honored to be a part of and continue to support in its mission to maintain the memory of Daniel Pearl through ongoing, international journalistic and musical efforts.

Earlier this year, the foundation successfully fought to pass the Daniel Pearl Freedom of the Press Act (that’s Daniel family surrounding President Obama at the signing of the legislation above, read more here) and every year, the foundation supports two journalism fellowships whose recepients come to work at US publications from overseas countries such as Pakistan, where Pearl was murdered, in hopes that through this unique exchange, we learn more about one another’s cultures and engender more social understanding among the West and rest of the world, especially the Middle East.

As well as sponsoring these global journalistic fellowships, the foundation, through evoking Daniel’s passion for music (he was an avid musician and music fan), sponsors the Daniel Pearl World Music Days each October, during Pearl’s birth month, to bring forth its message of “Harmony for Humanity.”

Chromeo gives a shout out to the Daniel Pearl Foundation from JD on Vimeo.

For the past two years, our multicultural music frends in Chromeo (Chromies, as I call them) have joined us in honoring Daniel’s memory and this important cause by dedicating a show in Daniel’s name to the foundation and its important mission.

This year, Chromeo are set to do it again at their October 30th Halloween show at the Congress Theatre in Chicago; joining them are fam(ily) like Kid Sister and A-trak. If it’s anything like last year’s show, it will be nothing short of amazing (you just have to see Dave don P’s doorag, and P try to fit in Dave’s go-to black leather jacket and wayfarers when they cross-dress up for Halloween as each other!). Point is: do something fun, while doing a good thing (tickets here).

You can check out last year’s awesome and sincere dedication by Chromeo above and a video for the 2010 Daniel Pearl Music Days below, as well as this link to learn more about the foundation. Also, if you have a band or musical event in October that would like to be a part of the Music Days, please don’t hesitate to email me directly at gwasfie@hotmail.com.

Peace, Giselle
