new radiohead album this saturday

February 14th, 2011 by Giselle

Well before its expected street date, the new Radiohead album King of Limbs, will be available online this Saturday (!); well now, ain’t that a lovely Valentine’s surprise…

A digital version of King of Limbs can be purchased in advance for $9 (for MP3 format) or $14 (for WAV format). There’s also the option to purchase a “newspaper album” release (to be shipped May 9) that comes with lots of goodies. If the album art is any indication, this should be quite an uplifting record, no?

Go here to order!

Music nerd alert: according to NME, the name of the new album “relates to an oak tree in Wiltshire’s Savernake Forest, thought to be around 1,000 years old. The forest lies around three miles away from Tottenham House, a listed country house where Radiohead recorded part of ‘In Rainbows’.

“The tree is a pollarded oak, referring to an ancient technique for harvesting timber for fencing and firewood. The phrase also appears in the 23rd chapter of the Qu’ran.'”
