style crush: the grand hotel, mackinac island michigan

July 2nd, 2013 by Giselle

It’s become a bit of a tradition around these parts, around this time of the year, to point the GPS towards the great lushness of the northern mitten (that’s north Michigan to you) and head to Mackinac Island’s historic, 19th century-built Grand Hotel, which lives up to its name in sophistication and style.

The car only takes you so far on this road trip, as the island is totally car-free and relies solely on horses and budgies and those two trusty things called your legs to get you around, after you’ve taken the ferry across the waters of Lake Huron (more history here) to the dock that is, and the elegant Grand Hotel carriage awaits.

There is a timeless elegance to the Grand Hotel. It’s full of throwback patterns and bright colors and winding corridors of a time gone by—yet somehow it stays so current and close and hip.

Check out these photos my summer style crush, the Grand Hotel. And then book yourself a stay to be transported. And totally inspired.
